DESCRIPTION:Long Beach Airport’s (LGB) award-winning Festival of Flight is coming in for a landing Saturday\, November 6. The popular free event\, which was canceled last year due to the pandemic\, is returning with aircraft on static display\, live music\, food and beer trucks\, activities for kids and helicopter rides for purchase. \nMore than 10\,000 attendees are expected to attend the outdoor event between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. on Taxiway E\, located on the west end of the airfield at 3590 East Wardlow Road. \nIn accordance with COVID-19 health mandates\, regulations require attendees to show proof of being fully vaccinated or a negative COVID-19 test. Children ages 2 to 11 who are not yet eligible for vaccines are required to show a negative test. Those who are unvaccinated need to take a test within 72 hours of the event (as early as November 3). \nFor free vaccine and testing details\, including schedules and locations\, visit the City’s VaxLB website or call the COVID-19 Information Line at 562.470. INFO (4636). \nThe City of Long Beach is strongly encouraging visitors to get tested prior to arriving to minimize potentially long wait times for on-site testing. If attendees are not able to get tested prior to arriving at the Festival of Flight the City of Long Beach will provide free rapid COVID-19 testing at the entrance as a last resort option \nAll attendees age 2 and older also are required to wear facial coverings inside and outside — regardless of vaccination status — unless actively eating or drinking. Exceptions can be made for individuals with specific medical conditions or hearing impairment. \nAttendees are advised to bring water\, wear sensible shoes and be prepared to be outdoors\, rain or shine. Coolers will not be allowed\, and bags will be subject to search. Service animals will be permitted\, but pets will not. \nFree parking will be available at the corner of East Wardlow Road and Globemaster Way\, as well as an overflow lot. Alternate modes of transportation\, such as cycling\, carpooling\, ride sharing and public transportation\, are highly encouraged. Bicycle parking also will be available.

That is why\, we will be distributing an Art Kit with all you need to build your own mini-ofrenda to celebrate your ancestors. We will post educational videos of what the tradition is about and how to make the ofrenda.\n\n\n\n\n\nTo make this event unique we will also have special lasers show and lighting that will help to transport you to a magical place.\nAll of the decorations are handmade by community members and artists that show their respect and love to their ancestors and by their desire to bring a moment of happiness and joy to the attendees.\n\n\n\n\n\nEl Dia de los Muertos es una tradicion donde el ambiente se llena de memorias y amor a nuestros antepasados. DESCRIPTION:Dear Neighborhood Leaders and Urban Foresters – \nI am happy to share that 100 new street trees are coming toWest Long Beach.  Volunteers are welcome to help plant and deeply water the trees at this socially-distanced\, outdoor tree planting event. \nCome help plant and water the trees!   \nAmerican Gold Star Manor Tree Planting \n“For All Who Have Made Sacrifices for our Country” \nSaturday\, October 16\, 2021 \n9 a.m. – noon \nMeeting Location: \nAmerican Gold Star Manor \n3021 Gold Star Drive \nLong Beach\, CA \nThe trees will be planted inside the American Gold Star Manor housing complex — a seniors only community – and face masks will be required.  The American Gold Star Manorwould like to invite volunteers to plant the trees in memory of beloved servicemembers. \nThe American Gold Star Manor is a clean\, quiet\, safe and very affordable senior retirement community on a 25 acres site adjacent to Santa Fe Avenue in West Long Beach.  It provides independent living for 400 Gold Star Mothers\, fathers\, veterans and other eligible seniors. \nHere is some additional information from their website:   Gold star mothers is a term is a term that came into general use with the creation of service flags used to show that a family had lost a son or daughter in the service (a blue star) or a child that died in the service (a gold star almost covering the blue star so that a rim of the blue star still shows.)  Mothers of slain service members came to be known as gold star mothers.  The phrase is generic\, and through customary usage has come to designate any mother whose child has been lost in the military.  A group of gold star mothers met in 1928 to form the American Gold Star Mothers\, Inc. (AGSM).  AGSM is a national\, private organization that is headquartered in Washington\, DC.  It has chapters all across the United States. \nWould your group like to be a volunteer partner for this event?  Volunteers of all ages are welcome at this event to help plant and water these young trees.  Attached are volunteer waivers you can bring with you on planting day. \nNo experience is needed\, we will train you.   \nCan you and/or your organization serve as Water Brigade volunteers to help water the newly planted trees on planting day? Volunteers are needed to help make sure each tree is deep watered with 15 gallons on planting day to help them get off to a good start.  \nCan you and/or your organization assist with watering the trees during their first year?  The Port of Long Beach and CAL FIRE have provided funding to plant 10\,000 trees in Long Beach neighborhoods.  Residents\, businesses and community groups partner withHousing and Neighborhood Services Bureau to provide volunteers at the tree planting events. \nWould your group like to provide refreshments for the volunteers on planting day? \nHousing and Neighborhood Services Bureau staff will deliver all the trees and tools on planting day.   \nPlease feel free to call Jim Osgood at (562) 570-5221 or via email to James.Osgood@longbeach.gov if you have any questions or would like additional information. \n— Margaret

Every day\, women and children in developing countries have to walk an average of 6km to bring water to their homes.\n\n\n\nEvery $8 we raise will provide one child with access to a permanent source of safe drinking water.\n\n\nPeople around the world will be participating in this #Walk4WaterDay by running\, walking or hiking 6 km. We intentionally chose the 1 km Marina Vista loop in Long Beach so you and your family can do as much or little as works for you. Every step counts\, and we hope some free range kid time in the open fields at the park will make this a very family friendly event!\n\n\nIf you’re not quite ready for an in-person event\, we would still love you to participate virtually!
