DESCRIPTION:California State University\, Long Beach’s annual Pow Wow at Puvungna\, an American Indian social celebration\, is the largest spring event of its kind in Southern California. The Pow Wow is focused on displaying the university’s strong American Indian presence. Admission and parking are free. \nThe two-day event\, which will feature American Indian dancing\, arts\, crafts and food begins at 11 AM each day and runs until 10 PM on Saturday and 7 PM on Sunday. In addition to dance contests and inter-tribal dancing\, there will be California Indian Cultural Presentations\, Gourd dancing with Dancer Registration closing at 2 PM on Saturday. All dancers and drums are invited. \nNative foods\, such as mutton and beef stew\, Navajo tacos\, fry bread\, and Indian burgers will be on sale at the event\, and American Indian vendors will be selling both traditional and contemporary American Indian art.

DESCRIPTION:Celebrate Black History Month with Loiter Galleries\, where we honor the incredible talent and creativity of Black artists. The show\, “Beyond the Frame\,” will feature established artists side by side with emerging talents\, brought together to celebrate the great resilience and innovation of the Black Community. \nOpening night is Friday\, February 28\, from 6 to 9 PM. It will include music\, a Meet the Artists opportunity and a fashion show. The exhibit will run through March 21. Loiter Galleries regular hours are Thursday – Saturday\, 5-8 PM; and Sunday\, 1-4 PM. \nMediums for Beyond the Frame include dynamic paintings; vibrant mixed media collages; brilliant illustrations and photography\, eco -”chic” high fashion pieces\, plus film and video experiences. The Mixed media collages are designed to both challenge and uplift\, while the immersive film/video components help complement the thought-provoking photography. \nFeatured artists for Beyond the Frame include AJ Black\, James Brooks\, Teylor Caesar\, CJ\, Monica Fleming\, Raven Irabor and Sam Mcknight\, Rae Rose\, and Jillian Thompson.
