Long Beach Youth Chorus
The Long Beach Youth Chorus was founded in 2017 with the goal of giving every child in the region the opportunity to perform in a choir and be the premiere civic children’s chorus in the area. Under the leadership of founding Executive Director, Stan DeWitt, the LBYC has had the opportunity to sing with the Long Beach Symphony Orchestra, the Long Beach Chorale and the Camerata Singers of Long Beach. The Chorus has sung at numerous civic gatherings, including the Mayor’s Tree-Lighting Ceremony (2019), for the annual gala for the Children’s Clinic of LB, and at a CSULB Men’s basketball game. The Chorus has also performed with the band Jelly of the Month Club (twice) and recorded tracks for the new album of the band Triggerman.
During the pandemic season of 2020-21, the choir rehearsed and performed beautifully under the leadership of new Artistic Director, Stevie Hirner. Stevie is in her second year as a music doctoral student at USC. This season, the choir is returning to in-person indoor rehearsals (with safety protocols such as masks still in place.) The Chorus is also introducing a Young Musicians’ Program, a musical immersion program for children grades 2-4, led by Eda Villegas (CSUDH, Bachelor of Music degree.) The Chorus’ mission is to develop the appreciation of choral music and musical talent among young people from diverse backgrounds in a mutually supportive environment. The Chorus’ vision is to be a diverse multi-chorus organization that provides every child in the region the opportunity to perform in a choir and gives them the life-changing skills that choral singing can develop.
