The LGBTQ Center Long Beach

The LGBTQ Center Long Beach

Mission: The LGBTQ Center Long Beach advances equity for LGBTQ people through culturally responsive advocacy, education, programs, and services. 

The Mental Health Program at the LGBTQ Center of Long Beach offers individual, couples, group, and family therapy for those ages 13 and up. We do not have psychiatric services but are happy to provide community referrals to assist you with this need. We are not a certified site for court-mandated services but will support you with identifying the resources you need.

Generation Q is a peer activity group for LGBTQ+ identified youth who are  9-12 years old. Youth participants have the opportunity to engage with others in a safe space through interactive games, workshops, and discussions. Parent/Caregiver permission is required

OUR MISSION & VISION
The Guidance Center provides comprehensive mental health treatment to our community’s most disadvantaged children and their families struggling with mental illness and abuse, leading them toward a positive and productive future. The Guidance Center envisions a community where all children have the help they need to be healthy and happy.

OUR STORY
In Long Beach during the 1940s, help for mental health challenges was difficult to find. In 1946, a visionary group of local public school teachers and counselors responded by forming the agency to provide help and hope to these children and their families.

A Safe Refuge

Safe Long Beach

Safe Refuge assists a wide range of underserved clients with a full spectrum of programs designed to help them rebuild their lives and move them to self-sufficiency. Our services encompass housing for low-income and homeless individuals and families; outpatient group and individual counseling; private and individual counseling.

At Safe Refuge, we believe everyone deserves the chance to recover from addictions to alcohol or drugs and so our programs are open to the population at large – not just those financially able to fund their own recovery. We also serve clients with combined mental health and addiction issues (co-occurring disorders).

The Trevor Project

The Trevor Project is the leading national organization providing crisis intervention and suicide prevention services to lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer & questioning youth.  A non-judgmental hotline for those 25 years old and below with LGBTQ-sensitive trained counselors you can contact through a call, text, or chat during a mental health crisis and/or suicidal thoughts.

Like MYTE, Q Chat Space online groups give you a dedicated space to come together with other youth and discuss topics relevant to your identities and experiences – it’s just online! It is not a forum. It is live and chat-based; there is no video or audio. Everyone is chatting during the same pre-scheduled time.
