Holiday Hangover

By: Agnieszka (“Agie”) Askov, Askov Estate Planning

Oh hooray, we have reached the Holiday Hangover portion of the year, where we no longer have to worry about gift shopping and what the elf on the shelf is up to tonight. No more holiday parties, no more obligations to be around family members who cause us anxiety, or to travel long distances with small children. Extended families have returned to their homes, and hopefully children have returned to school or will be returning next week.

January is often seen as a month of renewal and resolutions, ways we want to be different, better, this year. The start of a new year signals the pressure to create goals for the year to better our lives. Everywhere we look, we see:

“New Year, New You!”

“Lose those holidays pounds/baby weight, special January price for these exercise classes/gym!”

“Eat heathier this year, order this meal service!”

“Get Your Life Together!”

But I think for moms, once January rolls around we are dead tired. We are recovering from the chaos, picking up the pieces after weeks with the kids home and holiday responsibilities, and we do not need to do anything extra right now just because it’s a new year.

We are are worthy, just how we are, right now in this moment. We do not need to prove our worthiness to the world or to ourselves.

So I implore you, fellow moms, to use this month to chill out and recover from the holidays. You’ve earned it tenfold.
