Long Beach Moms Guide: Back to School Part 2: The Physical
We have all felt overwhelmed about how much of what to buy when it comes to back to school supplies. That’s where we come in. Check out the resources below to help you figure out what you really need.
Uniforms
It’s easy to over buy when it comes to back to school clothing, especially uniforms. When deciding how many of each item to purchase, consider a few questions: How often do you do laundry? How hard are your kids on clothes? How quickly are they growing? If you do laundry once a week, think about buying items to make up 6 mix and match outfits. That way, you have enough to get them through between washes (and one extra in case you have a super busy weekend).
Practical tip: Always get the darkest color allowed. For example, if the school accepts khaki or navy pants, get the navy. They’ll hide stains and look newer for longer.
Supplies
Missed the list your kid’s school sent out (or maybe they didn’t send out one at all)? Check out Target’s List Assist. Many LBUSD schools have posted their supply lists there. Or, you can always wait to buy most supplies until after the first day of school. That way you can fulfil the teacher’s needs without buying things the kids won’t need.
Practical tip: Avoid filling the landfill at lunch time. If you pack a lunch for your kids, try using these reusable, eco-friendly Bento Boxes and water bottles instead of plastic bags or bottles.
