Long Beach Moms Guide: Father’s Day Adventure

After being cooped up at home for months, there are finally some exciting opportunities to get out there and experience Long Beach. This Father’s Day, let’s show dads how much we appreciate them with a day packed full of unexpected activities.

An Outing

Why not start by taking him out on the town to support local restaurants (and taste some fabulous food in the process)?

If your family is not quite ready to visit a restaurant, the solution is Primal Alchemy, your spot for seasonal, sustainable, and local catering. You can pick up a fabulous feast and either take it home to enjoy or present it as a picnic in your backyard or at a local park.

Want to give dad the full wine and dine experience? Derricks on Atlantic has you covered. They are offering two Father’s Day specials: a tomahawk steak plate for $42 or a catfish plate for $21. Both come with a range of mouthwatering sides. Call ahead to book your plate and a spot in the dining room.

Looking for a unique way to end the day? Bring dad–or the whole family–to Ficklewood Ciderworks to experience their distinguished dry craft ciders. They blend the finest ingredients with a natural fermentation process to bring out distinct notes of elevated flavor.  Enjoy 20% off your order by mentioning Long Beach Moms this Father’s Day!

Activity

Now that food is sorted, it’s time to have some good old-fashioned fun. Is dad a little bit of a nerd? Why not unleash his inner geek with some fascinating at-home science experiments? Or maybe he’s more of a comedian? Share some quality giggle time with a joke contest chock full of family-friendly humor certain to hit everyone’s funny bone. Perhaps dad is an artist…or maybe he just likes to make a mess. Either way, salt dough ornaments are the answer. With a couple of common household ingredients and some fun cookie cutters, the family can create keepsakes that will last for years. They don’t have to be just for Christmas either. Does dad like fishing? Cut out and paint some fish shapes! Have a new baby? Make some adorable hand or footprints. The possibilities are endless. Just remember, shape them (including poking any holes for hanging) before baking, and decorate after.

A Memory

Speaking of making family memories, it’s always sweet to have a sentimental gift on hand. If you have a baby or toddler, consider ordering a personalized book for dad and the little ones to read together. If the kids are a bit older, they can even create a custom book themselves (or with just a little help from a grown-up). Finally, big kids can put some elbow grease on offer and present dad with a chore coupon book, either pre-made or from their own hearts and minds.
