Long Beach Moms Guide: Whaley Park Playground
What a fun and adventurous park!
The design of the park was thoughtfully planned. The play structure meant for the youngest children is nearest to the parking lot, and as the child-based age progresses, so does the challenge level of the structures.
Children and adults of all ages can play on these amazing structures. You can climb, hang, twirl, swing, crawl, slide, play music, jump, and ride on colorful equipment.
There is a plethora of rope courses, which have rubber and sand landing spots. The structures are their own unique art pieces brightly colored with a variety of shapes and busy outlines. Not only is the park shaded, it’s designed with colorful wing-like toppers that really make Whaley Park a memory maker.
The tot area, which is gated, was funded by a grant from the Department of Resources Recycling and Recovery :: CalRecycle. 10,000 waste tires were diverted from California Landfills thanks to this project, so you feel good about playing on these environmentally-friendly structures made from recyclables.
This park is tucked away off of Atherton and Bellflower, at one of Long Beach’s best locations. Sport teams use the baseball diamonds regularly, families picnic here and host birthday parties. It’s shaded, has bench seating close to the play areas, and parking is easy.
Thank you to the City of Long Beach for providing such a carefully designed playground and for keeping our community active.
