SNAP Pause Ahead: Your Guide to Food Resources in Long Beach

As many of you may have heard, SNAP benefits, which help families put food on the table, are going to be paused starting November 1, 2025.

For families in Long Beach, this could create a real gap in groceries and meals, especially for children who rely on these benefits. In California, millions of households depend on SNAP, including thousands right here in our city, so this pause is likely to affect more families than we might realize.

But there is help, and the good news is that our community is ready to step up!

Long Beach has a number of resources for families needing extra support. “Food Resources during the Government Shutdown – Long Beach, CA – November 2025” is an excellent online guide that lists free hot meals and grocery giveaways around the city, verified by local organizers with Long Beach Forward.

You can view the full list and share resources with friends and family at www.lbforward.org/food. In addition, the city maintains a weekly calendar showing where families can find assistance each day: https://longbeach.gov/mayor/news/food-resources/.

Additional Resources

If you or your family need extra support, Long Beach has a variety of programs and organizations ready to help. From hot meals and grocery giveaways to pantry referrals and fresh food maps, these resources make it easier to find the assistance you need, when you need it.

Local programs like Christian Outreach in Action, EveryTable’s Pay It Forward, Food Finders, and Food Oasis provide both immediate meals and ongoing support, while the Long Beach Health Department, 211 Los Angeles, and the Los Angeles County Regional Food Bank can connect you to services across the city.

For families with young children, WIC applications are still available for pregnant parents and children under five, ensuring vital nutrition for the littlest ones. Bookmark these resources, share them with friends and neighbors, and know that help is available right here in our community.

The pause of benefits for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program on November 1 is more than a policy moment: it is a human moment. In Long Beach, where many children, families, working single parents and older adults rely on those benefits to keep plates filled and lights on, the risk of hunger will rise, yet, community response, compassion, and connection matter even more right now.

If you, your friends, or your family may be affected, now is the time to act. Bookmark the resources, spread the word, and remember: every meal you help protect is more than sustenance: it is hope, dignity, and resilience.
