The Precious Perspective: Looking Back!
After spending over two decades in public education, there’s not much that’s unseen and less that can be considered a new or unfamiliar experience. With each blog episode, I strive to bring innovation and insight to my readers.
I’m incredibly grateful for all of our followers. So many of you I’ve met in a public space, and your words of encouragement bring me solidarity and fuel the energy to continue the journey of the Precious Perspective.
As a mother with a professional perspective, I want to give some insight into some of the successes and challenges within education today. We plan each year, but very few days are spent on reflection. Less time allows for the review of the plans, goals, and implementation effectiveness.
I’d like to encourage moms to get involved in their children’s learning and in the culture and lifestyle of the school(s) they are entrusting their most precious people to.
Let’s do a recap….
Do you feel like you had a successful year?
Do you feel like your child had a successful year?
And remember that success should be judged on an individualized basis.
After answering this question, use the response to determine what changes need to be made: when and where.
Cultivate relationships with staff who are directly affecting your kids. Try to obtain relevant information to advance them during the summer with study programs or activities that may help your students.
It’s a journey, not a sprint, not even a marathon.
It’s your kid’s journey.
As a parent, you feel like it’s your own, and this is partly true, but you’re there to support. The reality is that your kid is living their life and you’re the support system.
So, were you successful in that endeavor?
You know what, when I think of it, it’s both sides’ journey. Yours and the kids! But, the goals for you may be slightly different from that of the goals you established for your babies.
Take a breath!
Pull up a chair, take a seat.
Pour a glass of something while your favorite slow song plays and reflect.
Reflect in writing so that you can document your thoughts and use them to drive an even greater next year, and I’ll meet you there.
See you next school year.
Sincerely,
Precious Young
